Grounded 2 Buggy Guide: Progression, Mutations, and the Toe-biter
How the current buggy systems fit together: mount choice, Moldy Milk Molars, buggy mutations, the Buffin' Barrel, and the new amphibious Toe-biter.
Treat a Buggy as a route tool, not a cosmetic mount. Match the mount to travel, gathering, combat support or water access, then verify its progression cost.

A mount is a route tool
Use a buggy to shorten a repeatable run, not to skip preparation. Keep the access gate, repair plan, and safe return point beside the entry.

Status is deliberately conservative: a reference lead is useful for discovery, but exact stats, drops, costs and coordinates are not upgraded to verified without a current-build check.
Buggy progression is a system, not a cosmetic mount
The official Beat the Heat update says buggy progression can increase health, damage, effectiveness, gathering, and support. It also adds mutations that reinforce a buggy's role.
That means the right mount depends on the route: gathering, travel, combat support, or water access. Keep the job visible in the build note instead of calling one mount universally best.
Use Moldy Milk Molars and the Buffin' Barrel deliberately
Moldy Milk Molars are the resource named by the official update for direct buggy investment. The Buffin' Barrel evolves a buggy to the next tier, increasing its power and what it can gather.
Exact costs and unlock conditions are deliberately not listed here until the 0.5 build is checked in-game.
Toe-biter is the water-route option
The Into the Abyss announcement describes the Toe-biter as amphibious and able to travel across land and water. Use it to shorten surface-to-pond travel, then verify its current handling and upgrade path before writing a tier ranking.
Use this guide in a run
- 01Name the activity
A farming build and a boss build can use different perks without contradiction.
- 02Lock the core
Choose the weapon, mutation, armor, or food interaction that makes the plan repeatable.
- 03Test the fallback
Keep the route playable when the ideal drop or recipe is not available.
- 04Show the scope
State the version, mode, and assumptions behind every recommendation.
Before you commit to this route
- Name the activity and difficulty behind the recommendation
- List the core item and two realistic replacements
- Test the setup in open, crowded, and dangerous spaces
- Show the version and test date beside each claim
